We welcomed our first company in January 1990. Since then our clients have created over 500 jobs and have experienced growth rates from 15% up to 1200% - a success rate well in excess of the national average.
The very first company to be based here was a self proclaimed 'internet pioneer' and since its early days it has become a major operator in the field of hosting and managed web solutions. Nearly 120 fledgling businesses have benefited from our unique environment ranging from IT specialists to software developers to innovative marketing businesses.
The concept of business incubators was developed in the United States in the early 1980s in an effort to address the high failure rates of high tech start-ups. The Americans acknowledged that whilst there were lots of people with amazing ideas for businesses many of them were failing because they lacked some of the fundamental business skills needed for a better chance of survival.
In the late 80s some very perceptive Scots spotted that there were similar issues in Scotland and made moves to implement the same approach, resulting in our birth!
The Strathclyde University Incubator Ltd is a standalone private limited company which has four major and prestigious shareholders - Gresham House plc, Lloyds TSB, Scottish Enterprise and, as the name suggests, Strathclyde University.
